Periodontal (Gum) Treatment
Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection that results in the gradual destruction of bone and gum tissues that support the teeth. The result is tooth loosening over time and eventually tooth loss. Most people with periodontal disease are asymptomatic and may not be aware that they have the condition. There are a number of contributing factors including genetics, lack of professional cleaning (scaling), lack of flossing, smoking, and some medical conditions (ie diabetes). Regular scaling will slow the progress of the disease and more advanced therapies are also available.
